Painting Challenge 18

Painting Challenge 18 May 1 - June 6 The month of May into June showed some progress on my attempt to reduce the amount of bare figures.  It again was an eclectic group of figures that succumbed to the brush.  It was also a slow period as I decided to not count the figures as done unless I applied any transfers or decals that I had for them. First up, are 3 15mm Pz111,  that were received from my friend Barry.  Also there is a 6mm Soviet AAA missile launcher.   Next up is a squadron of Wildcat fighter planes for Blood Red Skies.  It adds to my collection of mainly Luftwaffe planes that I already have.  It was certainly an impulse purchase fore me. Here we have the first chariot that I have done.  I left space for a figure at the back of the chariot.  This way, I can make it a Roman/Gaul/Celtic chariot depending on the model. Here are the test figures for the Kingdom of Naples napoleonic Halbadeers of the Guard.  I have the rest of...

Painting Challenge 17 Apr 1- Apr 30 This is the sum total of my painting for the month April.  A death in the family, and a vacation to Williamsburg Va ate into the time.   In the background, are the final infantry for the Imperial faction of my Thirty Years war project.  In the foreground, are more light infantry for my Neopolitans.  In this case, for the 1st of the 3rd line. I did however, take plastic and lead figures on vacation with me to assemble.  I managed to assemble: 64 Carthaginian warriors 3 U.S. WWII jeeps with crew 13 1/2400 WWII ships 4 Roman Legionnaires 62 Gaulic Warriors 2 Celtic Chariots 6 French Line So I figure it was a productive month even though there was very little added.  And unfortunately, more figures came in. April Statistics Beginning Balance 9757 Items Painted 10 Items Purchased/Gifted 139 Ending Balance 9886 Total painted 575

Painting Challenge 16 Mar 3 - Mar 31  It has been a hard month.  Family health matters took center stage this month, so I had little energy to devote to my painting challenge.  I also discovered that I forgot to post the results from February.  So here goes. First off sorry for the blurry image!  In the foreground is a 6 mm truck from GHQ Models, as well as some scatter terrain pieces to spiff up some bases.  In the left background are some Thirty Years War figures.  On the left are some reinforcing figures for my Neopolitans.  That was it for the period.  Here are the statistics. February 2025 Beginning balance  9800 Items painted 61  Items purchased 40 Net balance 9739 March 2025 Beginning Balance 9739 Items painted 22 Items purchased 40  Net balance 9757 Total for challenge 565

Painting Challenge 15 Feb 24 - Mar 2   This past week found me getting back on track for my challenge.  Here is what I got done. In small scale painting, this photo shows another platoon of M-60's in the rear for Cold War battles.  In the forefront are 3 M-1's for modern battles. Here we have more 30 Years War figures.  Slowly working my way through the few that I have left.  Soon it will be time to showcase the units that I created.  These units are generic ones as I didn't want to try to identify specific regiments. Here are more figures for my Neapolitan Army.  These are specifically for the 1/3 Line.  I have fixed the tired Halbard guard. Here are the rest of the figures for a Neapolitan Chasseur unit.  I chose to do them in the 1813 uniform, as the 3 regiments were issued lances, because who doesn't like lancers! Here is the completed unit with the command stand that I painted as a test stand for the unit.

Painting Challenge 14

Painting Challenge 14 Feb17-Feb 23 A short post with no photos.  Most of the week was spent chopping ice from the last storm.  I finally got the driveway and rear walk and deck done.  It did not do any favors for my back, so I only finished 6 figures. I didn't take any photos, as I just went ahead and put them into the Neapolitan Napoleonic battalions I am striving to complete.  I will post an army showcase next week for the 2 regiments that are completed.  Still have more to do including reinforcing the Neapolitan Guard battalions up to my 16 man formations. February will show the lowest figure count so far in my quest for 1000 items painted.  I am well over half way, so I am not too worried. More next week including news from our imagination campaign.

Painting Challenge 13   Feb 10 - Feb 16 I didn't get very much painted this week for 2 reasons.  First off I wanted to assemble a lot of figures for upcoming painting sessions.  The other was that we had a snow/ice event where the Empress took a fall and needed  to go to the emergency health clinic for a knee injury. In small scale we have on the left a 15mm U.S. scout car and on the right a 6mm Russian helicopter.  I found the rear rotor after the photo was taken and reattached it. We have more Thirty Years War figures.  Almost done with the project with only 19 more to go. We will have to see how many figures I get painted next week, as there is about 2" of ice to clear from the driveway.

Painting Challenge 12 Feb 3- Feb 9 Not much paintng this past week.  Since I am over half way to my 1000 item goal, I decided to lay out my Napoleon's that need painting to see what I actually need for my Neopolitans.  I found that by switching to 16 man formations, that I had a slew of extra center company figures.  That brought a new dilemma as there were more than I needed for the size of the force I wanted to build.  The logical step was to now build a contingent from the Kingdom of Italy, a force I did not want to paint. I also decided to start to assemble some of the hoard of plastic figures I have for ancients, and medieval eras.  These include Romans, Gauls, Carthaginians, Celts, Ottomans etc.  On to the two photos. Here we have some more of figures for the 30 years war.  Slowlyworking my way through them with only around 30 left to do. The only other painting completed were these.  The single figure and the command stand are figure...

Painting Challenge Jan 27 - Feb 2 In small scale painting this week is a 6mm/1-285 scale Tornado attack aircraft from GHQ Models.  This will be used in modern micro armor games for the Cold War, as well as for the Imperial Daharan Army Air Corps. In the above photos, we have more of my Thirty Years War project.  The first one is for a 4th Shotte unit. Two shot units will be paired with a pike unit to make one larger unit.  The bottom photo is of more figures for a commanded shot unit.  I will have enough figures for several of this type of unit. Here we have more figures for my Neapolitan army.  This will complete the 1st Battalion of the 5th Regiment which wore Green facings.  A photo of the completed battalion is below. This completed the painting for January.  The statistics are as follows. Beginning Balance 9849 Added 54 Painted 103 Ending Balance 9800

Painting Challenge 10 Jan 20 - Jan 26 One would think that having been an army officer in real life that I would adhere to the Principle of the 6 P's.  However, last week I posted that I had all of the stands painted for my Duchy of Cleve Berg army.  As I was boxing up the army, I noticed that surprise surprise, I had missed 3 voltigeres.  I should have remembered, as I had painted one before, as I waited for some spurs to come in from the Perry's order.  That being said... In this photo we have the 3 missing lights for Cleve Berg on the left and 1 grenadier and 1 voltigere for my Neapolitan army.  With this, I now have all 8 battalions of line for Cleve Berg, and 5 line battalions for the Kingdom of Naples.  I have 5 more Neapolitan line battalions that have to be rebased.  In addition I have all of the foot guard battalions for Naples, but all have to be rebases to my new configuration, as well as some more figures to be pa...

Painting Challenge 9 Jan 13 - Jan 19   Small scale of the week.  Here we have a 1/700 scale C-5A of the modern Daharan Army Air Corps.  This joins the fleet of the Transport Company.  To the right of the plane is a 1/700 scale 150mm gun of the Imperial Artillery.  It was in one of Pit Roads kits that I purchased 20+ years ago.  To the left is a 6mm GHQ command post carrier.  This one is not camouflaged as it will  the Medic track for my combined arms unit for modern micro armor games.  Still have to paint the Medic symbol, but that will come later. In this photo, we have the start of two Shotte units for the Thirty Years War.  Nothing more to say until the units are done. Here we have the start of the 1/5th Line Regiment for my Neapolitan Napoleonic Army.  I have other units already done, but I decided to rebase all of my vast Napoleonic collection, going from 3 figures per stand, 4 stands per battalion to 4 stands of 4 figures. ...

Painting Challenge 8

Painting Challenge 8 Dec 6 - Jan 12 A case of flu severely limited my production this week.  In good news, the multiple command sprues of Napoleonic French, and Duchy of Warsaw arrived.  This will allow me to finish my Cleve-Berg army project as well as my Neapolitan Army. I managed to get this block of shot painted for the Thirty Years War.  Again it is not based as I might have to re-base it when I pick a rule set.  Still have more of these figures that were partially painted when I got them.  There are many figures that are not started, and those I will paint as a Bavarian contingent. This photo is of a squadron of Star Bombers for my breakaway faction of Terrans for Galactic Knights.  Not much else to say about the figures as they are easy to paint. That wraps up the week.  Hopefully more to show next time!

Painting Challenge 7

Painting Challenge 7 Dec 30-Jan 5 First for the week, a 15mm Gun Carriage for my U. S. forces.  I will base the vehicle and add stowage at some later date. Next are some militia for my Austrian napoleonic.  I have had the figures for so long that Joe had to help me figure out what they were.  I painted them as Prague militia.  This, I think finishes my Austrian contingent for my Napoleonics. Next are some 1/700 aircraft for modern Dahara.  The front two are naval strike aircraft for the Fleet Air Arm.  The 4 engine plane is a transport for the Army Air Corps. These are the last two emplacements that would fit any period that had sand bags.  I will use them for my 15/20/28 mm tabletops.  I think that I have around 10-12 of them. This is the beginning of what will become the 2nd unit of shot for my 1st Pike Block of Thirty Years War figures.  The 8 other figures are on the painting table as I type. and will be done fo...

PAINTING CHALLENGE 6 Dec 23-Dec 29 Sorry for the delay in getting this post out.  Again, real life has reared its head.  Enough of that, here we go with the weeks progress. In this blurry photo I hope you can see some shote infantry with a commander for the Thirty Years War.  I haven't completed the bases for these, as I am not sure of the rules I will play. Next we have a 1/700 scale heavy transport for Dahara's modern Army Air Corps.  I am almost done with the transport portion of the Corps, and will post a photo of the entire company. These photos show more vehicles for my Cold War period 6mm Micro Armor force.  This force is based on the Infantry/Armor team I served in in Germany.  The top photo shows the Company Commander and the XO's APCs, the 2 2 1/2 ton trucks for the company as well as a Battalion Commanders Command Post Carrier.  The bottom photo shows another M-60A1 tank Platoon, this from the 3/68th Armor. Finally, I have the last of...

Painting Challenge 5

Painting Challenge 5 Dec 16-Dec 22 Made good progress last week!  To stay on track, I have to paint 20 items per week.  Last week I got through 52 items.  Although some were very small, they still count! First off is the 2nd Pike Block that I have painted for my Thirty Years War force.  Also shown are figures to a unit of shot.  I think that the figures are from Black Powder, gifted to me by my friend Greg.  The figures were partially painted, so I just completed them in the scheme they were in. Next up are two more emplacements.  Not much to say about them.  I will deck them out with som debris and flock at some point. Here we have 2 World War II U.S. vehicles.  Slowly painting through the vehicles that I got from Bary.  Still have many, many, many foot figures to get through. Next up are 10 M113A1 APC's and 1 M577 Command Post wiggle in 6 mm.  Figures are from GHQ and will be used in Cold War European conflicts as well as my Dahar...

PAINTING CHALLENGE PART 4   Dec 9-Dec 15 As can be seen by the photograph, there was not much progress last week.  Family as well as personal medical problems limited my ability to get much of anything completed. At the top of the photo are 2 armored cars for my US 15mm World War II project.  I have not based them yet, as I haven't decided the appropriate medium to use for the base, . In the middle, are 6mm GHQ Models M60A1 tanks and M113A1 APC's.  These complete the first 2 platoons of a tank heavy combat team based on the infantry platoon that was my first assignment as a 2LT in the 1970's. The lower item is a prepared position that can be used for 28mm forces. Already, I have made more progress this week, so will be back for Part 5 next Monday.

Painting Challenge part 3

PAINTING CHALLENGE PART 3 Dec. 2-Dec. 8 Painting progress was all over the place this week.  I had hoped to get more items painted, but a minor medical problem reared its ugly head.  I did manage to meet what I think is the minimum number I need to push out every week. Here We Go! First of all, let me say sorry for the quality of the photos.  Dahara's  official court photographer was on a sabbatical.  Therefore, the alternate McShakey the elder was called in.  He complained that his Hamstring prevented him from holding still, but I'm not sure. Anyway, this first photo is of an Egyptian contingent for The Silver Bayonet.  These figures are from Northstar Miniatures and were painted mainly with Contrast and Speed Paints. This photo shows facilities of Dahara at the present.  These are all 1/700 scale models of several manufactures.  The three buildings represents the Hampton Electrical works.  They produce reactors fo...
